If you've ever considered helping a missionary reach the world for Christ, begin by getting to know one of our recent students.
My name is Antonio; I am 32. I grew up in the city of Toluca, Mexico. Influenced by my Christian parents, I attended church regularly and at the age of 10 committed my life to Christ. Later I graduated from a university with a degree in accounting and spent several years working for a German company in Mexico. I still felt, though, that there was something missing. Even though I was a Christian all those years, my life was less than fulfilling—I found myself at a crossroads.
My cousin introduced me to YWAM and I knew that God was calling me to attend a Discipleship Training School (DTS). My cousin told me that he felt he was to help me with the DTS tuition, but even with his generous donation I still did not have enough to pay the fees. In faith I felt that I was to go to Texas, praying that God would do something in the midst of my situation.
Halfway through the school I still was not able to pay the remaining fees. With no apparent means for support there seemed little hope for me to finish the school. To top it off, the school outreaches were to China or Paraguay. In my heart I wanted to go to Paraguay, especially since Spanish is my first language. But it seemed pointless to even consider going when I still had not paid my tuition. I felt that God wanted to do something; this was a testing time where God was showing me that I needed to fully trust Him.
Two weeks before outreach my school leader told me that YWAM Tyler awarded me a half scholarship—at first I could not take it in! I cried in disbelief and gratitude, unable to say anything. God was showing His faithfulness to me as He provided in a miraculous way. And He kept on providing. Over the coming days, I received several envelopes in the mail, all containing money. Some came anonymously; some came from people at YWAM Tyler; all wanted to help. So much came in that I paid off my tuition fees with the help of the scholarship and had enough for the outreach to Paraguay and an extra $200! One blessing produced more blessings—I was able to give money to help pay towards some teammates’ outreach fees.
Looking back over my time in DTS, I think the most significant experience was to recover my identity in Christ. It wasn’t gaining knowledge or learning theology; it was simply rediscovering who I am in Christ. One of the most beautiful things is that I could know more about God’s character; knowing more about His character helped me relate better with Him.
My desire is that through discipling people, they might find their true identity in Christ, reflect God’s character, and make a difference in society.

Donations make it possible for students from developing nations to study at YWAM Tyler.
An investment in these students brings untold dividends. After studying at YWAM Tyler, students minister in their own countries and to others with the word of God in their hearts and hands, ready to give it away. Every dollar given to our financial aid program is an investment not only in these students, but also in their families, their communities, and ultimately in the kingdom of God. |
